Our department of anesthesiology and CCM is one of the busiest group in Japan. Almost all stuffs have to participate operation. One case of anesthesia is controlled by one anesthesiologist, even the case is cardiovascular surgery. We provide specialist of anesthesia, intensive care and pain manegement to many hospitals.
Major subspecialty
1. Perioperative management
Every operation is controlled by an anesthesiologist in our operation theater. Many kinds of anesthetic methods, regional anesthesiaP, pediatric anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, etc. can be learned.
2. Management of intensive care unit
All of our ICU members are anesthesiologists trained in our department. Not only medications but also small surgical procedures can be learned.
3. Pain management
Severe and refractory pain should be decreased for our physical and mental well-being. Our pain center offers many kinds of solution for acute or chronic pain.
Laboratory investigation
1.Investigation of mechanism of insulin resistance induced by sevoflurane inhalation
It is known that anesthesia with sevoflurane affects glucose methabolism, but main target of sevoflurane effect remains unknown. We are now investigating inhibition of glucose metabolism induced by sevoflurane with mouse embryonic NIH3T3 cell line derived from mouse embryonic fibroblast.
2.Improvement of hemocompatibility of Centrifugal pump; MixFlow, JMS: Applicaiontion for next
generation cardiopulmonary support
According to program of industry-university cooperation among Miyazaki university, Oita university and central laboratory of JMS corporation, we developed small and high efficiency centrifugal pump; MixFlow and released for a part of commercial cardio-pulmonary bypass system which can be utilized for both adult and pediatric patients. We are now trying to establish new long-term cardiopulmonary support system and ventricular-assist device with “enhanced” JMS MixFlow.
3.Investigation of pathogenesis of refractory neuropathic pain related to change of some voltage
dependent sodium channel
Quantitative and qualitative change of voltage-dependent sodium channel in dorsal root ganglion neuron give rise to neuropathic and inflammatory pain. We established the model of neuropathic pain in rat. We are investigating expression level of the channel and its function with Western-blot, real-time quantitative PCR, and measurement of sodium ion influx with sodium-sensitive fluorescence probe with isolated DRG neuron derived from rat neuropathic pain model.
4.Research for reactivity of human blood vessel
We utilized human blood vessel which is a part of tissue sampled during surgery. The tension of the vessel measured in the perfused chamber tells us the effects of drugs, hormones, anesthetics, etc. The research using human sample gives us a many kinds of important information and enables us to publish a lot of scientific articles.
5.Elucidation of the effects of anesthetics and its mechanism on autonomic nerve activity
6.Assessment of Orexin interacted with anesthetics
