Thank you for visiting the website of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miyazaki, I am Naosuke Kamei, Professor, starting October 1, 2024.
As we live in a hyper-aged society, “how to live” has become a major theme. In this context, improving the quality of life (QOL) is one of the most important issues in modern medicine. We, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, directly contribute to the improvement of patients’ QOL by treating diseases related to “locomotory organs” such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, joints, and nerves.
The Department was founded as the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Miyazaki Medical University by Professor Chihiro Kimura, the first generation, and has continued to develop through the succession of Professor Naoya Tajima, the second generation, and Professor Etsuo Chosa, the third generation. We are particularly strong in sports medicine, having served on the national baseball, soccer, and rugby teams of various generations, as well as providing medical support at national sports events such as the National Sports Festival and the Inter-High School Sports Festival. While cherishing this tradition, we intend to continue to evolve.
I have been engaged in the practice of spinal cord surgery as well as research and development of regenerative medicine. The application of regenerative medicine in orthopedics has great potential for the future development of medicine, and our research aims to play a part. In addition, our goal is always to provide cutting-edge and high-level medical care, and we are committed to using the latest medical technology and knowledge to ensure that our patients can receive treatment with peace of mind. Furthermore, we aim to contribute to the world from Miyazaki by disseminating the medical knowledge and techniques we have cultivated in the region both domestically and internationally.
Finally, I sincerely welcome everyone who aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon. My slogan is “work with joy. In the Analects of Confucius, there is a saying, “He who knows this is better than he who loves this, and he who loves this is better than he who enjoys this.” This slogan is based on the idea that enjoying everything will produce the best performance. In order to have fun, it is essential to challenge oneself moderately. For this reason, I emphasize Early exposure (early experience) and develop an environment in which young teachers can play an active role. I also believe that psychological safety within the team is important, and encourage “zassou” (casual consultation as in chatting). My schedule is shared with all members of the team, creating an environment of open and active communication. We wholeheartedly welcome new members of the Bureau and provide you with a rich learning and challenging environment. Together, we will create the future of medicine and become a bridge between local medicine and the world.
We look forward to working with you.
