説明 1920年代にC. C. LittleらによってC57BLの祖先マウスと同腹のマウスから、毛色がブラウンの系統として分離された．N,N- deethylnitrosamine(DEN) による肝がんの発生が雌で非常に高い（Poole and Drinkwater, 1996a,b）、高脂肪飼料によって高コレステロール血症、アテローム性動脈硬化症がおこりやすい（Paigen et al., 1990; Kuan et al., 1992）、C57BL/6マウスと同様にアルコール嗜好性が高い（Belknap et al., 1993）、サイログロブリンによる自己免疫性甲状腺炎にC57BL/6より高い反応性をしめす（Tomazic and Rose, 1976; 1977）などの報告がある． 腹側に白斑をもつ個体が多い．
毛色遺伝子は、aa, bb, CC．
H2のハプロタイプはH-2k．
　1987年にJaxon研究所から国立遺伝学研究所に導入された．導入時のＦ世代数は不明．現在はSPF化されF?＋35．
