Course details

The Training Course for Veterinarians with Professional Skills is designed to produce advanced veterinary specialists through training in the following skill areas:

(1) advanced diagnosis techniques, treatment methods and research skills in the area of health care for animals (pets and livestocks);

(2) leadership skills for providing guidance to veterinarians working in animal health, food safety, and public health facilities;

(3) a strong research focus pertinent to pursuing the pathology of disease and acquiring advanced research methodologies together with more advanced diagnosis and treatment techniques in collaboration with medical departments;

(4) international veterinary clinical research skills based on advanced knowledge and techniques, a broad perspective and an open mind, and the ability to make comprehensive judgments based on a range of factors; and

(5) a basic grounding in science communication, translational research, intellectual property, and information management.

Demand outlook

There is an increasing public expectation with regards to the standards and research skills of leading veterinarian specialists engaged at facilities such as animal hospitals, zoos and aquariums as well as local and national government bodies such as National Institute of Animal Health, Livestock Hygiene Service Centers, Livestock Research Institutes, and veterinary clinics within the Agricultural Mutual Aid Association. As such, it is envisaged that there will be considerable demand for veterinarians with advanced medical skills and a strong research focus.

The course offers a unique learning experience that will deepen the understanding of animal health, public health and environmental health, in collaboration with each medical department.

Education program

(1) The research subject:

This provides specialized tuition in a more selective range of fields than undergraduate courses (for example: animal care in the perinatal period, lipid metabolic disorders in cows, animal circulatory systems, mechanisms of food poisoning) as well as practical tuition encompassing cutting-edge medical imaging diagnosis and anesthesiology.

(2) The special research subject:
This provides a knowledge base for pursuing veterinary clinical research in specialist fields.

(3) The research instruction subject:

This subject covers the candidate’s dissertation-related knowledge, critical sense, and ability to formulate an original, interesting, and appropriate research problem as the basis for preparation of the doctoral dissertation.
