Many life phenomena occur in our bodies through the action of ligands on receptors. However, there are many receptors for which the ligand is unknown (orphan receptor). This means that there are still many unknown ligands in our bodies. Among ligands, many bioactive peptides are responsible for important biological phenomena, and are currently considered important not only for elucidating biological phenomena but also as targets for drug discovery. However, in recent years, the discovery of novel bioactive peptides for orphan receptors in mammals has decreased. In order to overcome this situation, we are developing various methods and conducting research that will lead to the discovery of novel bioactive peptides. In addition, the targets are not limited to mammals, but have expanded to include drosophila and nematodes, which are useful as model organisms, various animal species, and recently plants. Would you like to dream with us through exploratory research on bioactive peptides, which is the specialty of the University of Miyazaki?
