Urology

Research in the Department of Urology prioritizes practical science that contributes to actual medical treatment. Postgraduate students in the department are also actively involved in research, and their studies can be found in prestigious international journals.
The department’s main areas of research are urogenital oncology and nephrogenesis, and we actively collaborate with individuals and groups involved in basic research. A quick look at the projects and publications listed below shows the department’s extensive involvement in basic and clinical studies.

Toshiyuki Kamoto, M.D., Ph.D.
Chairman
Department of Urology
Faculty of Medicine
University of Miyazaki

Ongoing Research Projects

  1. Identifications of clinically relevant molecular markers for urogenital cancers
  2. Analysis for “failure of ureteric bud invasion (FUBI)”: Using a new model of renal agenesis in mice
  3. Analysis of DNA polymorphisms in carcinogenesis and progression of urogenital cancers
  4. Identifications of molecular mechanism in metastasis of urogenital cancer: Using animal model

Laboratory Techniques

  1. Basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Cell cultures)
  2. Immunological examination (e.g., ELISA, Western blotting analysis)
  3. Morphological analysis (e.g., Scanning and transmission electron microscopy, Immunohistochemistry)
  4. Animal experiments
